Dilip Chakravarthy Kavarthapu is a highly skilled Software Engineer currently working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) AI team. With over 4 years of relevant experience, Dilip has a strong background in research and development, particularly in the field of Information Retrieval (IR) and Question Answering (QA). In his current role at Amazon, Dilip is a key member of the Lookout for Equipment team, where he is responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that help detect anomalies in industrial equipment. He has a deep understanding of AWS and AI technologies, and has worked on several projects that have helped improve the performance and accuracy of Lookout for Equipment. Prior to joining Amazon, Dilip worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at IBM, where he collaborated with IBM Research and IESL lab at UMass. His work on developing an IR technique that 'hops' to relevant evidence using information of entities from initially retrieved evidence to aid Multi-Hop QA was published at MRQA - EMNLP 2019 and received the Best Paper Award. He achieved a significant boost in IR performance, resulting in an improvement of 10.59 F1 using existing QA model on HotpotQA dataset. Dilip also has experience working as a Software Engineering Intern at Nissan Research Center - Silicon Valley, where he developed an Object Recognition application pipeline for cabin monitoring on distributed machines setup using MQTT communication protocol. He re-engineered a tool to remotely launch and operate Autonomous Vehicle SW stack on various machines. Dilip holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he focused on Information Retrieval and Machine Learning. He also has a Dual Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and a Semester Exchange in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Technical University Munich. He completed his High School education from Sri Chaitanya College of Education, where he studied Maths, Physics, and Chemistry. Dilip's technical skills include Software Engineering, AWS, AI, Research Scientist, Information Retrieval, and QA.
